You Only Get One Life - What Are You Doing With Yours?

You have heard it before. You only get one life. It is on motivational posters, in Instagram captions and on the lips of every life coach who has ever existed. And yet somewhere between the quote and the reality, something gets lost.
Because knowing you only get one life and actually living like it are two very different things.
For many ambitious women the gap between knowing and living is enormous. You know time is passing. You know the weeks are blurring into months. You know that the life you imagined for yourself - fuller, more present, more aligned with who you truly are - is somewhere out there, waiting.
And yet Monday comes around again. The emails pile up. The meetings blur into one another. Sunday evening arrives with that familiar weight. And the life you actually want keeps getting pushed to someday.
Someday when things slow down. Someday when you have more time. Someday when you have proved yourself enough to finally ease up.
But someday has a way of never arriving.
There is a concept in psychology called the arrival fallacy, the belief that when we reach a certain goal or milestone we will finally feel the way we want to feel. Finally fulfilled. Finally enough. Finally able to exhale.
The problem is that it never works. Because the goalposts always move. The next promotion, the next achievement, the next milestone they bring a brief surge of satisfaction and then the emptiness returns. And the chase begins again.
This is not a character flaw. It is what happens when we outsource our sense of meaning and fulfilment entirely to our careers. When we confuse achieving with living.
Because living, truly living, is not about what you accomplish. It is about how present you are in your own life. How connected you feel to the people you love. How often you do things that bring you genuine joy. How aligned your daily choices are with what you actually value.
And those things do not happen someday. They happen now or they do not happen at all.
Living like you only get one life does not require a dramatic overhaul. It does not require quitting your job or abandoning your ambitions. It requires something simpler and more profound - a decision.
A decision that your life matters now. Not after the next promotion. Not when things calm down. Now.
That decision looks different for every woman. For some it is protecting Sunday evenings as genuinely their own. For others it is taking a full lunch break away from their desk. For others still it is doing something purely for joy with no productivity attached.
But underneath all of it is the same shift. From living for the future to being present in the now. From defining yourself by what you achieve to knowing who you are beyond it. From surviving the week to actually inhabiting your life.
You only get one life. And it is happening right now - not someday.
The question is not whether you know that. The question is whether you are living like it.
If you are ready to stop waiting for someday and start living now - I would love to talk.
